Collecting Model Cars Is Great Fun!

Plastic scale model cars, die cast model cars & Hot Wheels  are just a few of the many kinds of collectible model cars.  While growing up I was partial to the plastic model cars.  They had a zillion parts…or it seemed like it… and you got to figure out what went where and glue it all together.  The hardest part was making it look remarkable at the end.  It took more painting skills than I had at this early age.

On the block I lived we all built plastic model cars and traded spare parts.  Looking back it was great.  You could go to one kid down the street and buy an engine to put in your car that was never meant to be there.  You could perform modifications to the cars to make them full on customs without having the expense associated with a real car.  It was truly exciting for us.

Only in recent years have I cared about the pre-built die cast models.  Some of those are quite affordable.  They allow you to own a collection of cars that you could NEVER afford if they were real.  You can line up Porsches, Lamborghinis, Corvettes and whatever else you desire.

The newer die cast cars also have a tremendous amount of detail compared to die cast models of years past.  Some are simply beautiful and have moveable everything!  You gotta luv it!

Of course, now days many of the youngsters collect Hot Wheels cars.  They are super cheap (if you get the main stream ones from the store) and they are tough.  You can bang ‘em around and zoom them across the floor.  It turns out that many have become VERY collectible and sell for a LOT of money if in the proper condition.

That is the thing about this hobby.  You can collect cars and keep them in the bubble pack, the box or whatever, or use them to play with as a youngster.  It is a hobby that changes over time.  If you give your kid a Hot Wheels car and tell him to keep it in the bubble pack so it will be worth more he will look at you like you are crazy.  But an adult collecting Hotwheels will think about it totally differently.

The good news is that you get to decide what you want to collect and HOW you want to collect.  It is a hobby that is affordable to just about everyone and is great fun!
